For those new to some of the terms used, I have put together a few of my most common terms or phrases in my courses and blog posts. New additions will be added on a continual basis.
Glossary of used Soulshift Seven Terms
Affirmation: The practice of positive thinking and self-empowerment. An affirmation is a carefully formatted statement that should be repeated to one’s self and written down frequently. For an affirmation to be effective, it needs to be present tense, positive, personal, and specific.
Awakening: Awakening is the realization that you are more than just a human and you are here to accomplish more than what is in front of you. Awareness arises when you to begin to realize who you are and what you came into this lifetime to accomplish.
Best Self: Your Best Self, or sometimes referred to as higher self (I use them interchangeably), is the ethereal high vibrational mental aspect of your soul that serves as liaison between your soul and the God of Your Own Understanding. Discovering how to communicate with your higher self as a guide is essential in the spiritual awakening process. Going within is the method of finding your best self. The truth and answers to any question can come through your higher self and are a vital part of discernment.
Chakra: The chakras are energy centers within our physical bodies. There are seven major chakras between the crown or top of the head to the base of the spine.
God of Your Own Understanding: God is different for all and no two relationships are the same. You may call your God: Divine, Universe, Creator, or another name. Whatever you consider your higher power, is your God. We all serve this same God no matter the name. There is no judgment in the name or reference you choose, and they are all referred to here on Soulshift Seven as the God of Your Own Understanding so that it can be universal.
Law of Attraction: By focusing on positive or negative thoughts a person brings positive or negative experiences into their life. You get back what you put out into the universe.
Life Purpose: A person’s life purpose is the main goal or goals that they chose to accomplish in this lifetime. Understanding one’s life purpose usually revolves around what one enjoys doing most in this life.
Meditation: One of the most powerful spiritual tools. Meditation is a ritual that creates a state in which the body is consciously relaxed, and the mind is able to become calm and focused. Preparation for meditation includes grounding, breathing deeply, and asking for spiritual guidance and protection. Meditation can also be used to clear negative energies and to bring more light into the body.
Self-Care: Intentional actions taken to care for your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
Shadow Work: When we speak of consciousness we refer to it as the light. This is because when we become conscious of something it is to be able to see it in the same way that we see something that is exposed to light. When something is unconscious, we cannot see or understand it. It is as if we are trying to see inside a dark room. Psychologist Carl Jung referred to the unconscious aspects within a person, the pieces that they themselves are unaware of or could not see, as their “shadow”. The human shadow is any aspect inside of a person that is not exposed to the light of consciousness. In doing Shadow Work, we are facing these unexposed pieces and bringing them to the light. These pieces are not all negative and the process, all though controversial in some circles, is not a “dark” one. We must care and heal ALL of our pieces so that we can do what our soul desires most, and that is, to be whole.
Spirituality (and differences from religion): Spirituality rejects the “us against them” philosophy and speaks of us and them. Religion is often about loyalty to institutions, clergy, and rules that can be steeped in politics. Spirituality is about loyalty to justice and compassion. Religion and Spirituality need not to be at odds. Religion at its best is spirituality in community. Here is an article that goes a bit deeper.
Soul: The ethereal substance or spirit particular to a unique living being. The soul is immortal and its energy can be seen around the physical body as the aura. The soul is an aspect of energy consciousness from a larger essence that continues to exist after the passing of the physical body.
Soulshift: Soulshifts are moments of refocus and new perspectives, or a shift in mindset.
Vibration: All matter is energy. Atoms are electrons oscillating back and forth at a certain frequency. The measure of speed of this frequency is known as vibrational density. Raising our vibration is what brings abundance and balance.
