As I look back on the many things I have done in life, I’m surprised by how many of them I didn’t “own.” For me, it has been a shit ton of amazing things I’ve done. Why would I not own amazing?
I am not an introvert. I am human with ever changing rainbows of emotion, so I sometimes take on introvert characteristics, but we all do if we are practicing good self-care. Time alone for introspection is normal. Since I am not introverted, it was odd to see a pattern of not owning the good in my life. Where was this coming from?
It came from fear. A mix of fear of success and a fear of failure. It was not always a conscious decision, but sometimes it was.
When you think of owning it when it comes to successes, it can often take on a negative connotation.
For balance, we must own all things.
The good and the bad. If we screwed something up, own it. If we made something awesome, own it.
Add these to your Soulshift toolbox to begin owning it all of the time:
Fight fear. We all face fear throughout our lifetime. When it comes to owning who we are and what we have done, a magnifier of What will XX think? can manifest. It is so easy to fall into this trap. I have seen dreams die at the bottom of that cave. Fear can be a fortress but we can also be the positive caretakers. Know fear is normal and should be welcomed as a challenge. Accept it to overcome it. Acknowledge it to accept it. Don’t ignore or distract from the fear, but own it.
Learn from it. There is no avoiding mistakes. I have yet to find a human of perfect existence and if I were to find one, guaranteed they wouldn’t be human. You are allowed to make mistakes. It is a false truth to be forced into perfection (by yourself or anyone else) because it leads to unhealthy expectations of self and others. Acknowledge what has happened and honor the lesson that came attached.
Feel proud of your creations. How others perceive what you have done, be it art, a new business, or a new skill, has no effect on you or your creation’s existence. Remove others’ power to inhabit a negative energy around what you have done.
Forgive yourself. Mistakes are a real part of existence so forgive yourself of all transgressions. Forgiving yourself will help others do the same, but whether they do or not is out of your control and should not be a factor in your actions.
Forgive yourself for all the failures and hurts you have put on yourself and others. It will allow for positive energy to once again surround the situation and bring a sense of renewal.
Take ownership of your mishaps and successes and remove the power they have on you and on others effected by what’s been done. We choose what and whom we give power to by allowing or disallowing others’ intrusion into our reality.
By owning everything you are giving permission to grow from it and let it go.
